Halogen-Free Tubing
Why use Halogen-Free Tubing?
- Environmentally Friendly Material
- Fire Safety (low smoke toxicity)
- Fire Damage Prevention (low smoke corrosivity)
Various industry and legislative environmental initiatives are driving
the elimination or reduction of halogen compounds which are generally thought to be
non-environmentally friendly.
|
|
|
When materials containing halogens burn, they tend to give off smoke that is both toxic
and corrosive. Halogen free materials may be specified in cases where these combustion
products are of significant concern such as in enclosed areas occupied by humans, or in areas
having sensitive or critical electronic equipment.
|
What are Halogens?
Halogens are the five elements Fluorine (F), Chlorine (Cl), Bromine (Br), Iodine (I)
and Astatine (At). These elements are highly reactive and readily combined with
metals to form compounds.
|
What is Halogen-Free?
"Halogen-Free" means that the product material
does not contain compounds which include any of these five halogen
elements. Some very small trace amounts of these elements may be present
as unintentional contamination.
